Experience The Turtle Centre in Grand Cayman: Conservation, Education, and Family Fun

YOU GUYS!!! ONE OF MY FAVORITE PLACES IN THE WHOLE WORLD IS RIGHT HERE!!!!! This place is phenominal. They have everything and are great for families. We went on a day when it was not crowded which made it even better. It was a Friday and surprisingly it was not busy at all. Some of their activities include: the large turtle viewing pond, the turtle snorkeling pond, the touch tanks, the hold tanks, and the egg viewing room. They also had a bird area and a nature trail with lots of butterflies. 

The Turtle Viewing Pond

This is where they keep all of their largest oldest turtles. You will see this when you first walk in. They feed them throughout the day and that is an amazing sight. You cannot touch or enter the water with these turtles, looking only.

Larger Turtle Touch Tanks

There are probably about eight of these tanks, each with one or two turtles they have taken from the other pond. They rotate the turtles to help them avoid them feeling captive. They are kept in those tanks for a while but there is only one tank where touching is permitted. This sign rotates around the tank depending on the day of the week. These turtles are far too heavy to pick up but they want just as much love and are very petable. 

Hold The Turtle!

These are not baby turtles. However, these are young turtles that are small in size and easy to pick up. They are familiar with being held often and they are really the highlight of the place. They also have tanks where you can step into the water with the turtles and pet and hold them as well. They are located right next to the hold tanks. This was my favorite spot and I came back here even after I finished snorkeling. This will most likely be your best photo op unless you come with an underwater camera and do the snorkeling.

TIP: Pay for the snorkeling section too. It gets you into the other side of the park where the waterslide is and where the large pond area is where you can get in the water and snorkel with the turtles. It is more money, but not much for what you get out of it. You will get a different colored wristband and you will see the sign that says you may only enter this side is you have that certain colored wristband. It is definitely worth the buy.

Turtle Snorkel "Tank"

Super fun extra area where you can leave your stuff in a locker, take the key and your camera, and jump in the water with so many real turtles and a couple fish! These turtles are smaller than the full grown ones but larger than the ones that are holdable. They are closest to the size you will most likely see in the ocean. Snorkeling with the turtles was super fun! I got some great pictures with my underwater GoPro. 

Some Bad News

Unfortunately, while snorkeling, a park visitor threw cayman coins into the turtle pool. One of the turtles ate one and was now having lots of trouble swimming and changing depths. COINS DO NOT BELONG IN THE TURTLE POOL! That was so heart breaking to see at a turtle park where they encourage conservation. I picked up the rest of the coins and took them out of the pool.

The Food and The Waterslide

The food here was good! They had a restaurant to eat at. They had few options but what they had was very delicious. Most of it was a fish sandwich or a wrap. They also had some chicken. The food was super good! I recommend eating some lunch there!

This place had a whole pool and a waterslide! That is crazy and my brother and my dad had a great time on it. They basically had the whole place to themselves over there! Super fun area for kids!

The Birds!

This area was so cute and full of colorful birds. I took my camera in there and took some cute pictures of the birds. It started to rain and I got a little wet but it was nothing but tropical! The birds were super friendly and colorful!
