7/13/2019 0 Comments Rum Point, Grand CaymanLocated on the North end of the Island, Rum Point is a great spot for families and those looking to get away from seven mile beach. It has a fantastic restaurant, and they are home of the world famous Mudslide drink! I cannot say I have or would stay there for more than a day trip. Keep reading to find out why! Positive VibesThe food here is amazing! The fish is fresh, everything is fresh. They have good prices and lots of good eats for sure. The environment is super colorful and lively. It is not crowded most of the time and the service is great. It is a smallish area with a fantastic gift store. The gift store even sells 4Ocean bracelets! They have the cutest swimsuits too. The tables to eat are located right in the sand and they are picnic tables. They are close to water, perfect for watching your kids play while waiting on food. Keep your eyes open in the water! There is a large pier (photo below) and it has a couple fish hanging around. There is some turtle grass but unfortunately, no turtles. Keep your eyes open, though, for cuttle fish and some needle fish to zoom by! Along with all other positive things, this place is one big photo op! It has cute signs and good colors, right on the calm ocean. A tropical rain and run away crabs is nothing new to this place, so do not be shocked if you even see a cat or two. I brought my camera along and it was a great decision! I’ll put a couple pictures below. Negative VibesAs much as I love this place, there were a couple things I could say would not want to make me stay overnight. The first is the lack of activities. All you can do here pretty much is sit on the beach under quite a bit of shade and eat. Unfortunately, there is no dive shop that I saw and the snorkeling looked not so perfect. However, I did not snorkel here. The snorkeling near the shore was no good but I cannot say anything about the snorkeling farther away from shore. Also, I am not a person to come all this way and spend time swimming in turtle grass. The kids don't mind, but for someone who knows what seven mile beach is like, endless sand and crystal water, I would rather be swimming there. This place is fantastic don't get me wrong, but I could not absolutely say that I would spend 7 or even 5 days here. I think it is more suitable for a day trip. How to get hereYou can pretty much get here any way possible. We went twice. Once, we came on a boat (with George's watersports) and we rented a car and came again. You could probably even seaplane or helicopter though, but boat and car are the two most popular ways to get to Rum Point. FAMERum Point is famous for the mudslide drink. Alcohol or no alcohol, they are the home of the mudslide drink. They are fantastic! If you go, please just give it a try.
