6/25/2021 0 Comments Lizard Island, AustraliaI only spent a couple hours here so my perspective isn’t long term but I was really impressed with the privacy and luxury at Lizard Island! What I did at Lizard IslandWhile on board the Spirit of Freedom Liveaboard, we stopped to have a New Years dinner on board the ship and then on New Year’s Day we would be taken to Lizard Island to do a hike and have breakfast. I would say the hike was on the easier side for me and everyone on board went ahead and took on the hike. All of them made it to the top except for one and I hiked it on flip flops. The breakfast was in a brown bag sort of manner. It was nothing compared to the dinner we had the night before. It tasted good though. I wanted to snorkel but…When we parked the boat there were a few nurse sharks that came from around the island to investigate us and I wanted to jump in and snorkel so bad. However, James had informed me that recently someone had died snorkeling the waters of Lizard Island via jellyfish sting and that they have these jellyfish in the water you can hardly see but are lethal. I just went ahead to look up the story and link it for y’all, but all the newspapers in Australia require a subscription… but look it up it’s real. Otherwise, they probably wouldn’t have cared. What I was not told until just now is that there are saltwater crocodiles at Lizard island. I was not briefed on what to do if I see one nor told about one but here is a story of a man being attacked by one at Lizard Island and surviving: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8767309/Man-33-savaged-crocodile-snorkelling-Great-Barrier-Reef.html Anyway here’s a video of the sharks, I just observed from the surface: General Info on Lizard IslandFrom what I gather, it is very expensive to stay there, thousands of dollars a night. It is very popular with celebrities as a getaway. They do have a restaurant there called the Marlin Bar and it looks good. We ate in the restaurant area but the actual place wasn’t open yet.
