Solo Travel to the Maldives: Your Guide to Flying on Your Own

Picture
My first time flying alone...

My Trip

Having made this trip before definitely made the whole flying alone thing MUCH easier. If possible, I would recommend flying a routine you have done before.
This trip I flew on Qatar air to Dallas (where I got the most lost), went onto Doha, then finally landed in Male, Maldives. It is rather difficult to write about so I made a YouTube video showing the trip.

Advice I have for you

Here's some top tier advice I have after doing this:
1. bring everything in your carry on
Your checked bags will usually be checked all the way to your final destination. It's a good idea to go ahead and pack everything for your flight in your carry on bag, including some stuff to take a shower if you desire- at least a toothbrush!
2. don't be afraid to ask for help
Anyone who works in the airport can help give you directions. This is really helpful when coming off of connecting flights and moving to a different gate, maybe even different terminal in an unfamiliar airport. As a young female, it's important to pay attention to who I'm asking. Looking for people who have name tags or are dressed in pants with collared shirts is a good way to find quality help.
3. signs are here to help you
Keep looking up! Flight boards are also a HUGE help and you should check here first for a gate.
4. don't look so lost
Or at least try not to... but moving with haste in any direction helps avoid the "dazed and confused" look.
5. Plan out a shower or find a lounge
the Qatar airport has numerous lounges that are very affordable. I looked a flight that purposely had a layover long enough to enter a lounge where I can eat and shower. The lounge I went to cost $66 USD and included food and shower for 6 hours.
