Driving to Florida Alone

What an experience! The drive from Georgia to the panhandle Florida was really easy and much needed! Here’s some ins and outs of taking a road trip by yourself or with a friend for the first time!

Take a reliable car 

This seems like a simple idea, but it can make a huge difference. Nobody wants to break down on the way to vacation and it can be dangerous especially when you’re young. Also, most of these roads you drive on are so far away from any sorts of stores or help that you do not want to be stranded here. 

Pay attention to the signs 

The best thing you can do when driving is pay attention to the road signs. If not, you could end up exiting without wanting to putting you in an unwanted dangerous situation changing lanes last minute or exiting into a rather scary area. Also, there’s signs will tell you what food is nearby or hotels in case you need to are a stop overnight. 

Bring snacks 

You don’t need a huge load but maybe a couple of snacks would keep you from dying. I recommend one or two candies, goldfish, cheezits, and a popcorn. For drinks, definitely water, something caffeinated, and Gatorade. 

Budget for food stops 

This may sound stupid but I forgot to put my road trip food into my budget. Just don’t forget to budget for that moment you want to stop on the way for a meal!

Which exits are safe? 

Even though its last, this is probably the most important point on here. Knowing which exits are safe could save a life. Typically, exits with a Chick fil a are safe if you are driving in the south. 

My drive: 

My drive was about 6 hours long from north Georgia to Rosemary Florida. On the way, I made one stop at Chick Fil A. My best friend went too and she drove part of the way. Breaking up the drive with two of us was perfect. we left around 7 am and arrived at 11:45 with a time change. Here’s a video of our journey!
