10/7/2021 0 Comments Unwind at Cinnamon Beach at Ocean Hammock: Luxurious Condo with Ocean Views and Resort AmenitiesThis is probably one of the largest condos I have stayed in and definitely the nicest in the area for those with a reasonable budget. Read more and I will tell you the story of the housing situation within our area, and neighboring areas around Cinnamon Beach. The place was a nice, relaxing, and quiet getaway. The AreaBefore I tell you about the room, let me tell about the area. It is a gated community very similar to the one that I have stayed at in Seaside Florida. When you drive through, there are a bunch of colorful beach houses and at the very waters edge, end of the drive, are the condos. I did not take any pictures of the houses, but if you want a visual check out this post below because they looked the same. Anyway, the gated community we were apart of was nice. The elevator was madly slow at times, as there is only one per condominium building so I can’t even imagine how long that would take during the crowded seasons. Outside of our gated area are endless glamourous golf courses right on the beach basically. We could see one from our room. What attracted us to this area in the first place was the golf for my dad. However, we quickly found out that if you are not staying in the golf community, you cannot play on the golf courses. So, why not just stay in the golf communities? Absolutely not. The reviews online are horrible, the places are old and rundown for the same amount of money as the nicer ones. Things are broken, so bad that guests have even had to move units… multiple times. So, we decided not to stay there before we even booked the trip. Upon arrival, my dad spoke with someone staying there. She said their stay has been awful, they have had to move units 3 times and things are still just dirty. Fortunately for us, we stayed somewhere different and were blessed with a nice unit. Here is a picture of the building of the condos: The RoomThe place we stayed in was nice, spacious and great for all 6 people we put in there. It did not feel packed at all, and was very clean. I ended up staring a room with my brother which was not as horrible as I expected. The only thing I have to say about the place was that the beds were the most uncomfortable beds I have ever been put in. Some of the airplane beds are more comfortable… However, the place had a really large deck, dining table, and living room. The kitchen was well equipped and we cooked there almost every morning and night (one night we got take out). The only downside is gas grilling is not allowed on the patio, so you have to do it in the parking lot. Electric grilling, however, is okay, but you might still catch some criticism for that. In order to buy food, there is a Publix grocery store about a mile away from the place that has all the food you need! Also, some condos in this building were pet friendly. Our specific condo was not pet friendly, but that is an option if you are looking for it. The BeachPerhaps the most important part of this whole post, the beach. The beach was a nice Cinnamon colored sand that was a great combination of shells and well.. sand. There was a lot of marine life to see here. I spotted a sea turtle while I was bookie boarding and a few nests on the beach. My dad saw a stingray and some jellyfish. While I am naming these animals, I dont want to frighten anyone. I spent hours in the ocean and was not stung by a jellyfish. Actually, I didn’t even see a jellyfish my parents were the only ones who say them. You have to be careful to not step on a stingray when they are in the sand, but shuffle your feet and you wont have an issue. We also saw a family of pelicans which were just adorable. The rocks were full of large crabs and seabirds. I even saw a seabird eating a fish which I managed to get a really good picture of! The only negative thing I have to say about this beach is the rocks in the water. Note the picture of the balcony in the room photos above. This photo was taken at high tide when all the rocks are completely covered by the water. You have to be careful when you go out there… I cut my foot on a rock and luckily it wasn’t bad but it could have been. There are places you can enter the water that do not have rocks, but if it’s your first time out there and it’s high tide, you may not even realize there are rocks. The photo below demonstrates these rocks: Overall, though, I liked the beach. The waves were really fun for boogie boarding. The current might present too strong for small kids through, especially without an adult in the water with them. A Plastic StrawAt this point, I would like to point out that there is controversy about plastic in the ocean. It is true straws are not making up a majority of the plastic in the ocean, however, I will say the only plastic I found on this beach was 2 straws. I threw them both out in a trash can not even 20 feet away (there were no recycling bins). While maybe not the most threatening issue in our oceans, we can still make simple choices against straws and/or to dispose of them property. Other AmenitiesOur room came with free WiFi and TV’s that had Netflix and Amazon prime access, if you were able to sign into your own account. The WiFi was strong enough to carry my computer through a proctored mid term that I needed to take while I was there, so this place is student approved! The community as a whole has a pool (pictures below) which is cleaned regularly. They also have a small (rather cramped in my opinion) gym that I used almost everyday I was there. The gym is located by the pool. ParkingThere is also one parking spot in the parking garage per condo. We did not use ours because we just parked outside and it was not crowded at all. Inside this parking garage are also luggage bellman carts that you can use to bring up groceries or luggage. We took a walk at sunset since the beach is really nice to walk on. It was nice being there in October as well because it was still warm enough to swim but there were no crowds. The sunsets were gorgeous! Overall if you’re looking to get away for a few days Cinnamon Beach is a great spot. However, if you’re looking for a week or more long vacation, I have different preferences. Overall, I had a nice stay here and relaxed a lot. There is a pier and probably shopping down the island, but I was not able to experience it because our time was so short.
