Wai Island Resort, Indonesia

If you're looking for a luxurious beach getaway with insane diving and possibly even better sunsets, look no further! Wai island resort has everything! Great diving and packages, delicious food (especially the spring rolls omg), a beautiful beach, manta cleaning station right offshore, kayaks for rent, and more! 

The Room

So PERFECT! No AC, tons of space, huge bathroom, toilet, shower head, sink made with a giant clam shell??!!!! WAHOO!

PRO TIP: put the fan inside the mosquito net before you tuck it into the bed. Otherwise, you will sweat all night :/

The Food

The food was delicious and home made! The menu changes everyday or they have a set menu. You will order your dishes the day before you wish to eat them. You can mix and match the "always available" with the "daily menu." For example, you can have an appetizer from the daily menu and a main from the always available menu or vice versa. There's usually something good you can find to eat! 
Also, the lemon ice tea is delicious! The spring rolls were my favorite!

As you can see from the photos, the eating area is outside open air. It's actually over water which makes for some beautiful views. 

Baby Sharks!

Kri is a nursery for newborn blacktop reef sharks but Wai has teenagers! You can find them around at all hours of the day. The kitchen feeds them around 5 pm :)

The Diving

The house reef for snorkeling is quite nice. However, for diving around the corner, the house reef is quite dead. It's the only dead reef I've seen in Indonesia. I would avoid if they suggest it. The guides also do not speak good English but they can get a translator from the front desk to accommodate all your diving needs. 
There is an airplane on the house reef, but it's quite deep. Located at 105 feet, you get about 5 minutes of no deco time (they do not have Nitrox, most places in Raja Ampat do not have Nitrox) before you have to leave. Not much time to look around. 
I will say the diving around Batanta is FABULOUS! Macro heaven! I noticed Batanta is the rainiest island and many people go there to backpack through the mountains and rainforest which means there are almost no places to stay and no divers. So so cool!!!

If I could have done one more thing...

I would rent a kayak and take it out to the manta cleaning station. The distance is too far to swim, but too close to boat to so a kayak is PERFECT! Also the currents can be quite strong so a kayak is the best way to get in. Visibility is insane so mantas can be spotted from the surface.
